Where Champions Are Built
There's a place in Irvine, California where fighters don't just train — they transform. Team Oyama Training Center has been producing some of the most technically sharp, battle-tested fighters in the sport for over two decades. And the reason is simple: Coach Colin Oyama.
Born For This™ is proud to announce our official mat collaboration at Team Oyama — bringing the brand into the space where the real work happens.
The Man Who Built It
For more than two decades, Colin Oyama has been one of the most respected MMA trainers and gym owners in Southern California. His résumé doesn't need embellishment.
Among the fighters he has trained: former UFC Champions Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, Tito Ortiz, and Ricco Rodriguez. Former WEC Champion Rob "Razor" McCullough. Jason "Mayhem" Miller. Tiki Ghosn. His more recent stable has included Bellator Lightweight Champion Brent Primus and former UFC Strawweight Champion Carla Esparza.
In his own words, his biggest accomplishment is training some of the best MMA fighters in the world — UFC Champions, PRIDE runners-up, Tachi Palace Champions, and WBC Muay Thai Champions.
That's the standard of the gym. That's the lineage of the mat.
Coach Oyama has always brought the team approach — from football and wrestling — into his fight program. At Team Oyama, you need teammates to do any of it. No superstars. No egos. Just people who work.
The Mat Is Sacred
You train on it. You bleed on it. You fall and you get back up on it. The mat isn't just equipment — it's a witness to every hard session, every breakthrough, every moment before the moment the world gets to see.
The Born For This™ x Team Oyama mat installation is a statement about where we belong: inside the gym, alongside the fighters. Not just on fight night — but every day in between.
A Fighter's Brand, Where Fighters Work
Born For This™ was built to represent the people who do this for real. That's why a partnership like this one matters.
Gianni "Kriptonita" Vázquez — Mexico City born, Irvine trained — headlines Combate Global's "Mexico vs. USA Part II" on May 9 in Burbank. He owns a notable split-decision victory over world-ranked contender David Martinez and prepares for every fight right here, under Coach Oyama's direction. Fight night is May 9. The preparation happens on this mat.
He's not alone. Ricky Simon — the UFC bantamweight fan favorite who shows up every single time and never gives you a dull moment — calls this gym home. Alex Perez, the flyweight who has competed at the highest levels of the UFC. Plus so many other professionals who trust this gym with the most important work of their careers.
This is the company we keep.
Why We Do This
Born For This™ was never designed to be a brand that sits on the sidelines. We put our name on a fighter's back because we believe in the story. We put our name on a mat because we believe in the process.
Working with Team Oyama isn't a transaction — it's alignment. It's acknowledging that the gym is where it all begins. The fight is won or lost before anyone steps into the cage.
Coach Oyama built something rare here. Not just a training center — a standard. We're honored to be a part of it.
